    Shaw + Smith winery was founded in 1989 by Michael Hill Smith and Martin Shaw with the goal of producing elegant, refined, world class wines from the cool climate Adelaide hills region of Australia. That Shaw + Smith have succeeded in spades should come as no surprise given the resumes of the winery's two founders. Michael Hill Smith was born into wine, a member of the Yalumba family.   • Tasting notes

    Aromatic, fresh and lively. This wine displays a beautiful pink grapefruit character with nice flavour concentration and a mid-palate texture that reflects the carefully selected sites and hand harvesting during the small window of perfect ripeness.

    For long accepted as the benchmark for Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc, and you don't have to go past the bouquet to figure out why: just about every tropical fruit you can imagine is on display from custard apple at one extreme, kiwi fruit and green pineapple at the other (Michael Hill-Smith rejects gooseberry on the basis this means cape gooseberry, rarely encountered in Australia). It all adds up to a complete wine made to be enjoyed until the queue forms for the next release.
