At heart, Catena is a story about family. Family who poured their lives, passion and spirit into transforming scrub-laden desert into some of the most beautiful and unique vineyards in the world. Family that passed their knowledge from generation to generation, blending collective memory with state-of-the-art science from the new world of viticulture. Family who, through risk-taking, faith and a little luck, transformed their treasured Mendoza terroir into the fountainhead of the award-winning...

Bright ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, licorice, menthol and herbs, with some obviously very ripe, even port-like qualities that may be from late-picked fruit. Rich, plush and intense in the mouth, as well as suaver than the nose suggests, offering a sexy sweetness but also excellent framing acidity to its dark berry and menthol flavors. This is impressively broad for 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon. Finishing with substantial but fine-grained tannins and terrific energy and length, this wine would appear to have a bright future.See detailed press review

Some of the Appellation wines were produced before the whole range was created, as is the case with the classical 2016 Appellation Agrelo Cabernet Sauvignon, from a classical zone in Luján de Cuyo. It was produced with grapes from 30-year-old vines at 950 meters in altitude from a cool El Niño year. It fermented after a three-day cold soak and matured in French and American oak barrels for one year. This is one of the few places where you find old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon, a classical place for the grape. It's serious, harmonious and very varietal, without green or overripe aromas. It has a great palate with very fine tannins, elegant yet powerful. This overdelivers.See detailed press review
