  • About this winery

Jean-Marc Brocard's origins lie in the Côte d'Or, a farmer's son from the village of Chaudenay-le-Château, not even the son of the vigneron. Following his father’s advice Jean-Marc studied Engineering leaving behind agricultural life. It was an accident of marriage that brought him to wine when he married Claudine (his childhood sweetheart), a vigneron's daughter from the village of St-Bris-le-Vineux in the valley of Yonne. August 2019

A small crop due to devasting frosts in April has left some excellent wines but in very small quantities. The Brocard Montmains is always about elegance and terroir, and it begins on the nose with the highly attractive oyster liquor, wet stone, and fresh morning seashore notes. The wine is half fermented in oak and half in stainless steel. The attack is clean and inviting with more mineral, leesy, chalky textures underpinning bright red apple and pear. Taut and linear, this will hold through 2022 but is best served over the next two years with oysters, clams, mussels or crab, all prepared simply. Delicious.

    Neal Martin, August 2018

The 2017 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru offers an impressive array of aromas on the nose: dried orange peel, oyster shell, gunflint and light Granny Smiths, all very well defined and vigorous. The palate is unapologetically classic in style with a fine bead of acidity, superb salinity with a persistent, classic finish that could only be Chablis. Excellent.

    August 2018

One of the more reserved wines in Brocard's portfolio, the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains reveals notes of green apple, white flowers and lemon. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and blocky, with tangy balancing acids and a saline finish.
