MONTES

The first activities at our vineyard began in 1987. Two partners with great illusions, Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, both holding long-standing experience in the wine industry, were certain Chile could improve on the quality it was producing at the time. It seemed as if the large and medium-scale vineyards were satisfied with limiting their distribution to local supermarkets. They certainly knew how to produce premium wines, but didn’t feel up to it, they were satisfied with the niche markets they had attained, which was certainly broad, although small. In 1988, another two original partners joined in, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand, each providing their qualified, complimentary views, and thus, Viña Montes was formally born, initially under the name Discover Wine Ltda., a saga that has made Chile internationally known in 100+ countries worldwide while providing extensive recognition and acclaim.

• 2009 ALPHA Cabernet Sauvignon

  Deep ruby red color, the expression of cabernet sauvignon is evident providing structure and elegance. Lots of berries fruits and hints of tobacco and vanilla. Promising abundant soft rounded tannins. The structure and balance of this full bodied wine makes it very pleasant and enjoyable. A very sophisticated wine with a delightfully long finish.

• 2010 ALPHA Carmenere

  Elegant deep ruby red colour, the wine is very characteristic of Carmenere. Lovely black pepper aromas with hints of blueberries, dark chocolate, vanilla and black plums accompanied by spicy notes typical of the variety. The mouth is distinctively smooth, mouth filling, with gentle, rounded soft tannins. Highly recommended with red meats, Mangolian beef, pork ribs, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce and lamb chops.

• 2009 ALPHA Chardonnay

  Its intense golden color with green hues shows a clean and brilliant wine. On the nose the Montes Alpha Chardonnay is a powerful and fruity wine that showcases the wonderful character of its premium Casablanca Chardonnay grapes. Banana, pineapple and tropical fruits become evident on the mouth, accompanied by a well integrated French oak that adds elegance to the wine without covering its flavors. The finish is long and very pleasant. A wine of great softness and creaminess that maintains the characteristic freshness of the Casablanca Valley.

• 2010 ALPHA Chardonnay

  Full bodied and creamy in the mid palate and very complex. One of the few Chilean whites that will improve over the years.

• 2009 ALPHA M

  MONTES ALPHA"M" is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (80 %), Merlot (10 %), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (5 %). A powerful wine with very good level of soft and rounded tannins. Intense dark red colour. The wine is elegant and has a very well defined character. The 5% of Petit Verdot is adding an extra element of complexity. There is an pleasant and harmonious marriage of fruit and the French oak. The structure of this wine will keep it for at least 20 years. On the palate, it is perfectly balanced, full-bodied and superbly voluptuous on the mid-palate with a rewarding, lingering after taste of mature grapes and acidity that reflects its superb structure.

• 2010 ALPHA M

  The 2010 harvest produced fresh wines of greater intensity, due to a 15% lower yield, concentrating the colour and aromas of the fruit and producing very soft and elegant tannins. Pair with baked turkey, rib eye steak, sherry kidneys and duck confit.

  This Merlot has a deep, intense red color. On the nose it presents red berries aromas, especially of cherry and strawberries, accompanied by interesting floral notes which are perfectly blended with the coffee and tobacco flavors associated from its twelve months of oak ageing On the palate it’s a full-bodied wine of great finesse with a long, smooth and pleasant finish.

• 2008 ALPHA Merlot

  This Merlot has a deep, intense red color. On the nose it presents red berries aromas, especially of cherry and strawberries, accompanied by interesting floral notes which are perfectly blended with the coffee and tobacco flavors associated from its twelve months of oak ageing On the palate it’s a full-bodied wine of soft texture, deliciously plummy fruit flavors and mellow tannins. A wine of great finesse with a long, smooth and pleasant finish

• 2010 ALPHA Merlot

  Handsome ruby-red color. Outstanding fruit, with a noseful of red berries, black cherry, black pepper, hints of tobacco. These elements come through on the palate, revealing a full-bodied wine. In mid palate is round and velvety with an added touch of vanilla and toast, followed by a long and smooth finish. Very, very elegant.

• 2008 ALPHA Syrah

  The 2008 harvest featured a normal spring followed by a warm summer, allowing the production of elegant wines of soft, mature tannins and the exceptional development of color in our Syrah. On the nose it shows both potency and elegance while on the mouth it presents its trademark softness with a persistent finish.

  Of intense ruby red colour, it has enchanting floral aromas accompanied by tobacco and leathery notes. On the mouth, it's powerful and full bodied to the palate, with soft and mature tannins and a very long and elegant finish. Food Pairings: Highly recommended with red meats, pork ribs, smoked ham, barbeque ribs, lamb chops with balsamic reduction, roast beef, smoked turkey, ravioli/Manicotti (w/Cheese), ribeye steak and pasta with puttanesca sauce.

  An elegant, dry Rosé wine. This seductive wine is fresh and well balanced. It has a bright intense pink color. Both on the nose and palate it has a distinct Syrah character, with some spiciness and hints of strawberries and lively floral flavors, mainly Roses as well as orange peel. With good fruit concentration it shows richness in texture across the palate that leads to a delightfully long finish. This is a fresh, young fruity wine. We suggest drinking it within the first two years. This wine will benefit from decanting before serving.

  A seductive, fresh and well balanced, elegant, dry-style Rose wine of bright vivid pink/red colour. Both on the nose and palate it has a distinct Syrah character, with plenty of body, juicy ripe fruit and with hints of spice and fresh, bright acidity. The wine is nicely textured and full-bodied with good fruit concentration, crisp and lively fruit, showing richness across the palate that leads to a delightfully long finish. A delightful wine to enjoy by itself, with appetizers or to complement light-flavoured foods. Highly recommended with sushi, salmon with mushroom sauce, paella, shrimp scampi pasta, canneloni and lasagne.

• 2009 CLASSIC SERIES Cabernet Sauvignon

  Fruity sophisticated elegant wine with the expression of the terroir of Colchagua valley. Beautiful intensive ruby red colour. In the nose there are cassis and strawberry flavors, with combined hints of black cherries and chocolate. Oak is not predominant but well combined and still present in the background in order to keep the fruit as a principal character of this wine. Solid and friendly ripe tannins. An outstanding wine for bottle aging.

• 2010 CLASSIC SERIES Cabernet Sauvignon

  Fruity sophisticated elegant wine with the expression of the terroir of Colchagua valley. Beautiful intensive ruby red colour. In the nose there are cassis and strawberry flavors, with combined hints of black cherries and chocolate. Oak is not predominant but well combined and still present in the background in order to keep the fruit as a principal character of this wine. Solid and friendly ripe tannins. An outstanding wine for bottle aging up to 5 years.

• 2011 CLASSIC SERIES Cabernet Sauvignon

  Deep ruby red colour, very appealing. The nose is packed with layers of caramel, cinnamon, candy and hints of mint, with a prevalence of fruit over oak. A spicy, full-flavoured wine, with good body, rich red fruit with a touch of vanilla, mocha and firm and friendly tannins. A fruity, sophisticated and elegant wine with the expression of the terroir of Colchagua Valley.

• 2010 CLASSIC SERIES Malbec

  Nice and intense ruby red color. In the mouth it’s appealing fruitiness combined with the plumy and blackberry hints, makes this wine a very good example of the potential of Colchagua valley. It’s slight spiciness is totally integrated with the hints of vanilla that comes from the oak aging. A full-bodied wine, with ripe tannins and voluptuous mid-palate and a long, very enjoyable, finish.

• 2010 CLASSIC SERIES Sauvignon Blanc

  Pale yellow in color, transparent. Deeply fruity, intense notes of tropical fruits, peach, pineapple and hints of gooseberry. A fresh, crispy, well balanced wine with nice refreshing acidity that makes it appealing and friendly. Long finish, very good as appetizer and goes well with white meat.

• 2011 CLASSIC SERIES Sauvignon Blanc

  On the palate citrus fruits like pink grapefruit and tropical fruits as white peach and passion fruit are accompanied by the floral notes that characterize this wine, showcasing its cool Casablanca climate origin, revealing an aromatic and fresh wine. Recommended for pairing it with Caesar salad, ceviche with lemon, garlic shrimp or simply on its own. Drink as young as possible.

• 2012 CLASSIC SERIES Sauvignon Blanc

  Pale yellow with green hues and 100% fermented in stainless steel tanks. No oak ageing. Grapes are hand harvested and carefully selected to enhance the wine varietal aromas as fresh herbs, new cut grass and citrus are evident on the nose. On the palate citrus fruits like pink grapefruit and lemon-lime and tropical fruits as white peach and passion fruit are accompanied by the floral notes that characterize this wine, showcasing its cool Casablanca climate origin. A wine of intense fruit, lively acidity and a refreshing finish. Drink as young as possible. Enjoy it with fresh salads, fish or simply on its own. Perfect as wine by the glass. Pairing Suggestion: Highly recommended with sushi, Caesar salad, ceviche, garlic shrimp, grilled Mahi-Mahi, pasta primavera, seafood chowder and chicken with lime.

• 2009 Folly

  Montes Folly has a strong deep ruby red colour. The nose is intense and elegant with lively blackberries, blueberries and plums with hints of chocolate aromas. The mouth is rich and dense with layers of blackberry, boysenberry, mocha and espresso flavours supported by velvety and powerful tannins and a long finish. Consistently ranked as one of Chile’s best Syrahs.

• 2010 Folly

  Dense, black plum, dark chocolate. This is a dark and intense Syrah, it needs a braised meat such as short ribs, rich wine sauces but not too much spice.

• 2009 LIMITED SELECTION Cabernet Carmenere

  It is strong in color, beautiful and deep ruby red. Butterscotch and the subtle spiciness makes it appealing, with a strong personal character. The well integrated vanilla flavor comes from the oak aging, and adds complexity and elegance. This is a medium to full bodied wine but yet soft and friendly in the palate due to the sweet and firm tannins of the Carménère component.

A medium to full bodied wine. On the palate it is ample, soft and generous, with intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon and the softness of Carmenère accompanied by a subtle spiciness and a long aftertaste. Pairing Suggestion: Highly recommended with Mongolian beef, pork ribs, spaghetti with Bolognese sauce, pizza, lamb stew and mushroom risotto.

  Beautiful lively ruby red colour. Young and great power in this wine. The perfect harmony between the aromas of red fruits from Cabernet Sauvignon and the hint of plums from Malbec makes this wine very elegant and attractive. Sweet, fresh and firm tannins from Cabernet Sauvignon combine very nicely with the velvety and smooth body from Malbec. A seductive lingering in the mouth.
