  • About this winery

At heart, Catena is a story about family. Family who poured their lives, passion and spirit into transforming scrub-laden desert into some of the most beautiful and unique vineyards in the world. Family that passed their knowledge from generation to generation, blending collective memory with state-of-the-art science from the new world of viticulture. A white with dense fruit, yet fresh and lively. Full body, dried apple and mango. Tangy finish. Lively acidity.

This is from two of the highest sites in Tupungato. It is fermented with natural yeast. There is little lees stirring and no malolactic, which preserves the acidity. It is pale gold. The nose is very ripe and rich with fine scents of melon/pineapple, pear, toast and blossom honey. Almost some marmalade character. It's quite full bodied but nicely even and well structured. Nicely even on the palate, with very fine definition. Excellent length.

Combining fruit from the Domingo and Adrianna vineyards, both in Gualtallary, this is more old-fashioned than some of the Catena Chardonnays, showing a hint of honey from botrytis, subtle oak and sweet stone fruit flavours, but it’s still a very well made expression of the grape. 2016-18

The 2014 Catena Alta Chardonnay is always a blend of grapes from two vineyards in the Valle de Uco, Adrianna in Gualtallary and Domingo in Villa Bastias. It has a heady, ripe nose with some smoky notes and hints of nuts, and a terribly tasty palate with deep flavors and great persistence, savory, almost salty.
