Vinous on ROCCOLO GRASSI

Titre

Proprietor Marco Sartori makes some of the most striking, pure Valpolicellas and Amarones readers will come across. Sartori favors relatively little influence from dried grapes in his reds, so readers should expect modern Valpolicellas and Amarones without high levels of residual sugar.

Antonio Galloni, July 2015

A wine of extreme finesse, the 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella is utterly captivating. Dark red cherries, plums, cloves and new leather are some of the many notes that blossom in the 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella. Pliant and deeply expressive, the 2011 is firing on all cylinders today. I don't see the 2011 as a long-term ager, but it is absolutely gorgeous today and should continue to drink well for another decade, give or take.

About ROCCOLO GRASSI

ROCCOLO GRASSI

Roccolo Grassi is a remarkable Veneto success story. Prior to 1998 the grapes from the family estate were sold to the local Coop; since then youthful owner/winemaker Marco Sartori has quickly established the domaine as one the greatest producers of Valpolicella and Soave, even inviting comparisons with the grand masters of the Veneto: Romano dal Forno and Quintarelli.
