Châteauneuf-du-Pape's Domaine de Beaurenard

Faithful to the old adage, “To make good wine, you need good grapes,” Domaine de Beaurenard harvests entirely by hand. Each picker is given two buckets and once the bunches are cut, separates the finest bunches from the damaged or not fully ripened grapes.

The grapes are transferred to the vat room in small bins to prevent them from being crushed. This stringent process married with with their biodynamic approach ensure that consistent quality is maintained despite the whims of nature.

Indeed, year after year, Beaurenard's wines are highly rated, including these two offerings which are limited in quantity, as noted below.

January 2019

The 2016 'Boisrenard' as an absolutely brilliant wine from Domaine de Beaurenard which takes things to another level. This stunning blend of old-vine Grenache (66%), Mourvèdre (12%) and Syrah ( 12%) undergoes lengthy vatting, and is aged traditionally, with no filtration or fining, followed by 18 months in oak barrels, before being bottled and spending further time in underground cellars. The wine itself instantly begins to impress with its fascinating and beautifully fresh aromatics of ripe black raspberries and red plums which are joined by exotic spices, florals, wet stones, cherry wood, smoke and hints of earthy minerals all soaring from the glass. On the palate this boasts a gorgeous full body, with a velvety texture along with excellent depth, concentration and precision. It continues to impress as it displays outstanding overall balance with remarkable finesse and elegance, as it demonstrates stunning class and refinement from start to finish. Even in its youth this is completely captivating, and should only go on to age gracefully for decades to come.

Inviting, with a whiff of macadamia nut out front, followed by heather, yellow apple, anise and Cavaillon melon flavors. A light kiss of brioche on the finish is deftly done. Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc and Grenache Blanc.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2017

In the 14th century, during their stays in Avignon, the popes – especially Pope John XXII – built a papal castle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Impressed by the area’s exceptional soils, they established vineyards on the slopes surrounding the château and were instrumental in promoting the local wine’s reputation around the world.
