Wine Advocate on BERTANI

Titre

Bertani is the brightest star in a constellation of wine brands owned by Angelini Estates, the wine division of the Angelini pharmaceutical group. Despite the change in ownership in 2011, Bertani has remained firmly fixed, locks and chains, to its historic brand identity. There has been absolutely zero change to the wines or the winemaking.

An intense red colour with purplish highlights. On the nose, marked and intense aromas of very ripe cherries, sour cherries, fruits of the forest, spicy and nutty notes typical of the Valpantena. Good follow-through of red fruits on the palate, with supple tannins to give depth.

This opens with aromas of ripe dark berry, underbrush, incense and baking spice. The juicy palate delivers black cherry, chopped mint, tobacco and a hint of clove alongside polished, fine-grained tannins.

James Suckling, August 2018

A really beautiful Amarone that shows fresh, glazed cherries, red licorice, dried nutmeg, caramelized orange peel, dried rose petals, hot stones and red-plum essence. Medium to full body, really tight and compact tannins, pinpoint acidity and a long, spicy finish. So dry, linear and well defined.

About BERTANI

BERTANI

Bertani’s story began mid-19th century when brothers Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani purchased some land in Quinto di Valpantena, north of Verona, in 1857. With a Royal Warrant and an appearance at the coronation of England’s King George VI in early 1900s, Bertani wines had made the history books. Then in 1958, to amplify an already impressive pedigree, Bertani bottled and exported the first official Amarone Classico.
