Vinous on DOMAINE DE BEAURENARD

Titre

Another property that has been producing wines with greater elegance and less bombast in recent vintages, Beaurenard's recent and upcoming releases are among the most satisfying bottlings I've ever drunk from this domain.

Beautiful deep and sparkling purple in colour. On the nose, this wine is expressive, complex, spicy, fruity, and mineral. Great complexity, with flavours of red and black fruits, leather, garrigue, licorice and spices. A very elegant wine with silky smooth tannins, beautiful structure, and a very long finish.

November 2016

Fleshy and layered, with gorgeous spice cake, melted licorice, singed alder and warm espresso notes leading the way for a core of steeped blueberry, raspberry and plum fruit. Everything pulls together wonderfully, with velvet-coated grip extending the finish.

Jeb Dunnuck, October 2016

A true gem in this difficult vintage is the 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Boisrenard, which offers medium-bodied richness and solid mid-palate depth to go with pure, complex notes of black cherries, blackberries, toasted spices, leather and bouquet garni. For a vintage that yielded mostly mid-weight, charming wines, this has real depth and length on the finish. It too will drink beautifully through at least 2024.

Wine Advocate, October 2016

Even better than the base cuvee and up with the top whites in the appellation, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Boisrenard Blanc is a field blend of mostly Clairette and Roussanne (smaller amounts of Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Picpoul and Picardan) that was fermented and aged in barrel (20% being new). Tight, backwards and reserved, yet with tons of potential, this beauty gives up notes of ripe citrus, crushed rocks, spice and a hint of oak on the nose. Concentrated, fresh and impeccably balanced, it needs a year or so of bottle age and will evolve for a decade or more.

About DOMAINE DE BEAURENARD

DOMAINE DE BEAURENARD

In the 14th century, during their stays in Avignon, the popes – especially Pope John XXII – built a papal castle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Impressed by the area’s exceptional soils, they established vineyards on the slopes surrounding the château and were instrumental in promoting the local wine’s reputation around the world.
