  • About this winery

Dog Point Vineyard is one of the oldest privately established vineyards in Marlborough. Established in 2002 by partners, Ivan & Margaret Sutherland, and James & Wendy Healy. After working together at Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James decided to return to a more hands-on approach and establish their own wine label. Dog Point Vineyard is located at the confluence of the Brancott and Omaka Valleys in Marlborough, New Zealand’s premium wine growing region. The name “Dog Point” dates from earliest...

  • Tasting notes

Fresh pure herbal tinged nose of passion-fruit, grapefruit and white peach with hints of fresh garden peas. The palate is lively and brimming with mouthwatering grapefruit acidity and juicy tropical fruit.

  • Viticultural notes

The 2017 harvest will be remembered as the shortest one ever (21 days) at Dog Point Vineyard, later than normal due to the abnormally late summer weather, and finishing before major rain events in mid April. It began with warm spring and summer weather resulting in good bud-burst and desirable even growth. Cool weather followed in early December with dry, and at times windy, weather mid-summer. Late February rain helped replenish the soil prior to harvest, and cooler but otherwise excellent growing conditions prevailed into the autumn. Attentive viticultural practice allowed us to achieve optimum physiological ripeness at lower sugars, resulting in impressive fruit flavours.

    Bob Campbell MW, February 2017

Concentrated sauvignon blanc in quite a ripe style with nectarine, stone fruit, grapefruit, gooseberry and red capsicum flavours. Very appealing and quite textural wine with good weight and a lengthy finish. A class act.

    January 2017

Intense aromatics here with floral, passionfruit notes hemmed in with smoky, matchstick, mineral characters. This is good reduction in action, and it frames the fresh, direct citrus, grapefruit and passionfruit characters on the palate really well. Nice acidity and focus, with a long, bright finish. A lovely wine with more than a hint of seriousness about it.
