  • About this winery

Chiara Boschis has an incredible story. In a region where women winemakers are far from the norm she has built a collection of wines that is the envy of many. The E Pira e Figli estate was passed from father to son for centuries, until the late 1980’s when Luigi Pira passed away. At that time his sisters who inherited the vineyards felt that they could no longer maintain the estate. October 2016

The 2012 Via Nuova Barolo is another spectacular release from Chiara Boschis in this vintage. This is sourced from multiple vineyard sties in the towns of Barolo, Monforte and Serralunga and aged in French oak (1/3 new, 1/3 second use, 1/3 three+ uses) for 24 months before aging an additional year in bottle. The 2012 is a wine which possesses wonderful purity and precision, as begins to releases alluring aromas of ripe strawberries, raspberries and cherries all coming together with floral, sweet spices, and minerals all taking shape. On the palate this continues to impress as it demonstrates remarkable focus with outstanding overall balance and finesse, before delivering a burst of bright red fruits heading into the silky finish. Simply gorgeous today, but possesses excellent potential to age for years to come.

    Antonio Galloni, March 2016

A wine of extraordinary precision, the 2012 Barolo Via Nuova possesses stunning vibrancy and energy. Dark cherry, cherry pit, blood orange, orange peel, exotic spice and mint are all laced together in a chiseled Barolo that bristles with energy. Addictively beautiful and inviting, the Via Nuova is endowed with a super-classic, mid-weight feel, knock-out aromatics and fabulous overall balance. The Via Nuova is a blend of six vineyards; Liste and Terlo (Barolo), two parcels in Mosconi (Monforte) and Gabutti and Baudana (Serralunga). Chiara Boschis has done a terrific job with her Via Nuova. This is compelling juice.

    Monica Larner, June 2016

Elegance and harmony are two leading traits that can be attributed to the 2012 Barolo Via Nuova. This wine represents a balanced blend of Nebbiolo grapes from various sites. That blending flexibility adds to the overall balance of the wine, which is very important in a vintage like 2012 that was not always easy across the various townships of the Barolo appellation. Bright cherry and blackberry are followed by spice and grilled herb.
