  • About this winery

The Chave family is the epitome of 'People, Place and Time'. They have been vignerons in the Rhône valley since 1481 - an astonishing 16 generations. Originally the family farmed only in St. Joseph, moving to Hermitage about a century ago when phylloxera swept through the region. October 2017

An alluring style, with a whiff of white pepper giving way to sleek sanguine and iron notes that race along, presenting pretty bitter cherry and damson plum fruit flavors. The long finish lets savory and mineral details play out.

    Josh Raynolds, July 2017

Deep ruby. Powerful aromas of blackberry, candied violet and woodsmoke, plus a hint of olive that emerges with aeration. Sweet, densely packed and seamless in texture, offering juicy black and blue fruit and licorice flavors given lift and spine by a core of juicy acidity. Spreads out and becomes spicier on the long, sweet finish, which features subtle tannins and a sexy floral nuance.

    JH, 2014

Velvety crimson colour with a soft rim. Lovely aroma of peppery Syrah dark fruit and just a slight herbal stemminess. Gets more and more peppery in the glass. Succulent and mouth-watering chalk-fine texture, freshness and all that lively peppery fruit. Long, savoury, spicy finish. A delicious wine from a master of the northern Rhône. (JH)
