  • About this winery

Azelia is still something of a Barolo lover's secret. Though the estate is not a high-profile one, proprietor Luigi Scavino is cousin of Enrico Scavino of the renowned Paolo Scavino estate, and shares ownership of the famed Fiasco hill in Castiglione Falletto with him. Luigi, his wife Lorella and son Lorenzo Scavino own and maintain 16 hectares of vines in Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba (including Cru Barolo from Margheria, San Rocco and Voghera Brea) and Montelupo Albese (for their...

    April 2018

Another very good 2014 Barolo from this producer. It combines floral and earthy notes with dried strawberries and shows a serious tannin structure. The finish packs quite a punch for this vintage.

The 2014 Barolo Bricco Fiasco offers a carefully balanced and elegant bouquet that is partially based on vibrant primary fruit and partially based on the more ethereal varietal notes you get from Nebbiolo. March 2018

Azelia's Bricco Fiasco is made from 65-year-old vines, and is from the same site as Scavino's Bric del Fiasc - the latter being its name in the local dialect. There's a smokiness on the nose that may derive from the small barrels in which it has been aged, but the red fruit aromas penetrate through clearly. It's rich, full-bodied and concentrated in the mouth, with firm tannins. It's spicy and intense thanks to its good acidity, with a solid, lively and long finish.

    February 2018

The 2014 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is a typical wine for the vintage. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, smoke, iron and dried rose petal build in this super-classic, light to medium-bodied Barolo from Azelia. The wine displays lovely persistence and grip...
