Today, we bid farewell to Miljenko “Mike” Grgich, a trailblazer in the world of winemaking, who passed away at the age of 100.Born in Croatia in 1923, Mike’s journey led him to Napa Valley, where his 1973 Chardonnay shocked the wine world in 1976, earning top honors in Paris. His impact on Napa’s history and global wine appreciation is immeasurable.Beyond Napa, Mike revitalized Croatia’s wine industry, opening Grgich Vina in 1996, and championed winemaking education.Mike’s legacy lives on at Grgich Hills Estate, where he led until 2018.
