Continuing our Employee Spotlights let’s shine the light on the one who is known as our walking wine encyclopedia…drumroll…it’s Neil Punshon, Director of Sales for BC & Liquid Arts! Neil’s passion for wine is undeniable and his cooking is legendary! Let’s get to know him better:![]()
• Outside of work Neil loves cooking, gardening and hiking. Wine collecting too!
• Watching his kids turn into great human beings is pretty rewarding too!
• Something you might not know about him is he is now into baking! He has baked a lot of bread over the past few years and even made a Panetonne from scratch at Christmas.
• His other new hobby is gaming: “My kids got me into playing the new Zelda games on the Nintendo switch (I hadn’t played video games in years).”
• The next wine region on Neil’s travel list is Mosel, or any other wine regions in Austria
• His favourite part about working at Trialto is sharing great wines and stories of our wine partners; “Sharing wine, sharing passion, through storytelling is core to what I love about my job. I’m really looking forward to launching Jurij Fiore & Figlia from Lamole in Chianti later this year.”
• Through the years Neil has visit most of our wine partners and tasted through their wines. Unable to choose a stand out wine, he said this: “What is great about wine is that you can be constantly finding new ones. I drink the hell out of Lapierre Morgon and Selvapiana Chianti Rufina; two of our portfolio’s greatest values. Benchmark producers from their respective regions’. At the other end of the spectrum Pierre Gimonnet’s Oenophile 2008 and Azelia’s Bricco Voghera 2010 were likely my two wines of the year last year. Ask me again in a few months and I am sure I will have a few more suggestions (one of the great pleasures of wine – constant discovery)….”![]()
Thank you, Neil, for your enthusiasm for our winery partners and their wines, we couldn’t imagine Trialto without you! Cheers to many more years of sharing delicious wines and great stories together!![]()

In celebration of Trialto’s 25th Anniversary we travel to a winery rich with history and passion for nurturing the land around them…while making incredible, award winning wines! Let’s head to Italy, to talk about Argiano.![]()
Argiano is a beautiful estate, established in 1580, in the southern western portion of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. The wine-making industry of Argiano was born thanks to the construction of the cellar about four centuries ago. Over the course of the centuries the Estate passed through various noble families until it came under the inspired leadership of Lady Ersilia Caetani Lovatelli, who was able to promote the products of Argiano in major cultural gatherings at the time. It’s well-know what the great poet Carducci declaimed in his verse: “I cleanse myself of this bitterness with the wine of Argiano, which is extremely good…”
In 2013 Bernardino Sani took over as CEO of Argiano and in 2015 also became the winemaker. Today, the estate is undergoing the conversion to organics and Biodynamics. World famous oenologist Alberto Antonini has joined on as consulting winemaker espousing his "less is more" philosophy to highlight the estates terroir. These facts coupled with the estate’s long history of excellence seem to indicate that the future is brighter than ever.![]()
Cheers Argiano for decades of great partnership and cheers to many more!

In continuation with our 25th Anniversary Celebrations, we are off to France to shine a light on one of our incredible winery partners: Domaine Jean-Louis Chave!![]()
The Chave family is the epitome of People, Place and Time. They have been vignerons in the Rhône valley since 1481, passing the torch from father to son for an astonishing 16 generations. Originally the family farmed only in St. Joseph and moved to Hermitage about a century ago when phylloxera swept through the region. Today their Hermitage Rouge and Hermitage Blanc are generally regarded as the appellation's greatest wines. In recent years Jean Louis has begun the painstaking process of restoring the steep St. Joseph terraces that his family has farmed for centuries and has slowly begun to acquire and restore more of the steep plots that were abandoned in the wake of the pyhlloxera (today most of the AC's production comes from the valley bottom and not the steep well exposed hillsides). This is very compelling news for lovers of Rhône wines since historically St. Joseph has been the most underrated appellation in the Northern Rhône. Having centuries of experience has resulted in simple and effective practices resulting in brilliant wines. There are no secrets here – exemplary farming, low yields, minimal new oak, minimal intervention and no filtering. Jean Louis also produces négociant wines under the JL Chave selection label from St. Joseph “Offerus”, Crozes Hermitage “SIlene”, Côtes-du-Rhône "Mon Coeur" and a more affordable Hermitage Rouge and Blanc. Trialto staff have personally cellared several of these cuvees for more than 10 years. The wines are supremely age-worthy and are exceptional value!![]()
Cheers to Domaine Jean-Louis Chave - it has been a pleasure sharing your wines, and passion for St. Joseph and Hermitage, with Western Canada for so many years! ![]()
